O’Lampia Studio was founded in 1993 in New York City’s Bowery lighting district where we still handcraft our fixtures in-house. Our name is a combination of the words “O!”, “lamp”, and “utopia”, and takes inspiration from Édouard Manet’s painting “Olympia”.
Founder and lighting designer Kwang Sung Lee’s original designs span many styles: Gothic, Colonial, Art Nouveau, Mid Century Modern, Contemporary. Now a family business, our design philosophy still aims for a contemporary and minimalistic yet warm interpretation on traditional structures, expressed through simple, graceful lines, delicate proportions, and multi-functional craftsmanship.
O’Lampia’s designs have been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, and others. Our fixtures are lighting up spaces locally and internationally, from restaurants, hotels, shops, bars, homes, universities, and theaters like the Lyric on Broadway, and the Mehr Theater in Germany, both showing the Harry Potter play.
At O’Lampia, everything is made to order. We take on orders of all sizes, including commercial hotels, restaurants, and condominiums, as well as personal residential projects. Our original designs can be fabricated as shown, or customized in size and finish. For finish options, we offer a range of hand painted house patinas, or plating and powdercoating. Founder / Lighting Designer
Lee designed O’Lampia’s original collection of lighting. He received his MFA from Pratt Institute, and founded O’Lampia Studio in New York City in 1993. Lee’s simplicity in form and understated design enlightens spaces across the globe.
